Steroids in sports

Usually steroids are used by body builders but some use it illegally in other sports such as football, basketball, most commonly baseball and the Olympics. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) maintains an extensive list of all banned performance-enhancing substances. The five most commonly know types of steroids are Androstenedione or andro steroids, primobolan or methanolone steroids, Tetrahydrogestrinone or THG, Clenbuterol or clen, and DHEA or dehydroepiandrosterone.

Steroids are taken either with a needle or in a pill. The most common dosing is either taken in a period of weeks or months. This is called "cycling", "stacking", or "pyramiding". This involves slowly increasing the number, the amount or the frequency of steroids to reach a peak and then gradually tapering the amount and frequency of the drug. Doses taken by steroid abusers are often 10 to 100 times higher than the what would be medically prescribed for legitimate use.

Athletes use steroids in hopes on improving performance. Although drug testing is widespread throughout sports there are some steroids now that are specifically made to avoid detection. But know with the new technology old urine and blood samples are being tested to see if athletes were using steroids in the past. One prime example of this is when Alex Rodriguez got busted for using steroids in 2009 with a urine sample from 2003 when he played on the Texas Rangers.

There are many health risks from the use and abuse of anabolic steroids. The effects in men include infertility, which is the inability to conceive a pregnancy. Other effects of using steroids are male-pattern baldness, severe acne and cysts, and breast development. Ways that anabolic steroids effect women are deepening of their voice, enlargement of the clitoris, excessive body hair growth, male-pattern baldness, and severe acne and cysts. Their are a list of health problems that these steroids can cause but to sum it all up steroids are definitely not good for your health and most of the time it is pretty obvious when your taking steroids.

Athletes who use steroids can experience withdrawal symptoms when they quit. The symptoms include mood swings, depression, fatigue and irritability, loss of appetite, insomnia, and aggression. Depression can even lead to suicide attempts, if untreated. Basically once you make the bad choice to start using steroids you have to keep on using them because your body feels the need for them and it could really deteriorate your thoughts.

Steroids in sports might be good and steroids in sports could be bad. Many people believe that steroids ruin the game and i am one of those people. A number of people of people like to see those hard hitting long home runs. Many of the greats broke the records while being true to the game and not using steroid such as Babe Ruth. Some men who used steroids because all they wanted was to break all the records and do whatever it takes to get there such as Roger Clemens, Mark McGuire, and Barry Bonds. Although these players were very adept at what they do greed took over and they wanted to be on top forever.
